You should be a competent off-piste skier,able to do parallel turns in powder snow, and linked stem turns in more difficult
snow.
Previous ski touring experience is not required.
An ideal course for good skiers who want to join the backcountry revolution!!
Stamina: ***
Stamina-wise, you need to be able to ski for 4-6 hours each day.
Ski Touring is hard work and we do find most newcomers are surprised by just how physically demanding it can be!
To get maximum enjoyment from these courses you need to be working on your fitness well in advance and we recommend
plenty of aerobic exercise to boost your cardiovascular fitness and stamina.
An intensive skills weekend for aspiring ski tourers. This course is ideal for good skiers who want to learn the essential ski touring skills for travelling safely and confidently in the backcountry. Ideal preparation for a tour later in the season.
Itinerary
Day 1
Arrive in St Gervais and check into the hotel. In the evening you will meet up with your Mountain Tracks guide for an
initial briefing and review of the itinerary.
Days 2-4
3 full days on the mountain with your guide leading a range of skills sessions covering the following:
Route planning and navigation
Skinning skills
Glacier travel
Crevasse rescue
Transceiver training
Recognising avalanche terrain and avoiding avalanches
Emergency procedures
Using crampons and ice-axe
On the third day we'll be on the mountain as long as possible but return to St Gervais in time for participants to make
their way back to the airport for evening departures back home.
The itinerary is kept flexible to allow for changes in the weather and snow conditions.

The price includes: all guiding fees & expenses, 3 nights half-board hotel accommodation (twin rooms), in-resort
transfers.
The price does not include: lift pass, lunches, beverages, equipment hire, personal insurance, travel to/from St Gervais

Ski touring skis, boots and bindings are essential for this weekend.
All skiers will need to carry a small daypack containing their safety gear and personal items.
Everyone is expected to ski at all times with the three essential items of avalanche safety equipment: transceiver,
shovel and probe. If you ski off-piste regularly we recommend you purchase your own set and we have a special offer on BCA’s

It is a condition of booking that you are insured for guided ski touring covering personal accident, rescue and third
party risks. You are strongly advised also to take out cover against cancellation and curtailment.
